EAST BRUNSWICK -- Firefighters from the East Brunswick Independent Fire Co. and the East Brunswick Fire District 1 were dispatched to the Brunswick Square Mall off Route 18 at about 10:15 a.m. Thursday morning.
The blaze, which began on an array of solar panels on the roof of Macy's, was extinguished about an hour later.
Nobody was injured in the fire, police said.
Firefighters pulled a fire alarm to evacuate the building. As of noon, the mall was back open except for the Macy's wing, police said.
The damage was contained to the roof above Macy's and the floors directly below the fire.
The Brookview Volunteer Fire Company also responded to the fire.
