GSP to honor longtime supporter

The George Street Playhouse will present the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award to The Actors Fund and its president and chief executive officer Joseph P. Benincasa at its annual gala benefit on May 22.

NEW BRUNSWICK -- The George Street Playhouse will present the Thomas H. Kean Arts Advocacy Award to The Actors Fund and its president and chief executive officer Joseph P. Benincasa at its annual gala benefit on May 22.

The award pays tribute to an individual, corporation or foundation "whose dedication to the arts enhances the cultural life of the citizens of New Jersey."

The Actors Fund serves professionals in film, theater, television, music, opera, radio and dance with programs in social services and emergency financial assistance, health care and insurance counseling, housing and employment training services.

Benincasa oversees innovative programs mostly related to those services. He also serves on the boards of directors Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, Learning Ally and the New Jersey Theatre Alliance.

The gala will begin at 5 p.m. at The Heldrich, located at 10 Livingston Ave., with a cocktail reception and silent auction; dinner will follow at 6:30 p.m. with a cabaret performance at 7:30 p.m. For tickets or more information, call 732-846-2895, ext. 141 or email events@georgestplayhouse.org.
