Be careful, that call could be a scam and it could leave your bank account dry.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK TWP. -- Be careful, that call could be a scam to drain money from your bank account.
South Brunswick police say they have received "several reports about a scam involving a person or persons claiming to work for Microsoft Tech Support."
These callers, police say, are telling people that there are issues with their computers, asking them to log remotely into their systems to "fix problems with Microsoft software," according to a statement from the township police department.
Once the scammers are logged into victims' computers, they then are accessing peoples' banking and other personal information "to drain bank accounts of money," authorities said.
The most recent number that came from a scammer was 847-991-3111.
Police are asking citizens to be wary of phone calls in which a caller asks for personal information or access to personal computers or accounts.
"Microsoft will not make unsolicited calls for technical issues," the statement said.

- Do not purchase any software or services
- Never give control of your computer to a third party unless you can confirm that it is a legitimate representative of a computer support team with whom you are already a customer.
- Never provide your credit card or financial information to someone claiming to be from Microsoft tech support.
