SAYREVILLE -- A 33-year-old man was flown to the hospital after a steel beam crushed his leg in an accident at a machine shop Monday, borough police said.
The man, whose name was not released, was working at Matty's On Site LLC on Route 35 south when the I-beam, which was being transported by a forklift, fell on his leg. He became trapped under the piece of steel, police said.
His injuries are not considered life threatening, police said. He was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital's trauma center via State Police helicopter, which landed in a playground at the Eisenhower Elementary School.
Sayreville police detectives and OSHA are investigating the incident.
