The appointment of a former Perth Amboy interim and assistant business administrator is the subject of a state investigation.
PERTH AMBOY -- Questions are being raised about the September appointment of the city's former interim and assistant business administrator, Peter Pelissier, according to a recent report by MyCentralJersey.com.
Pelissier, who began his job in October, was appointed by city Mayor Wilda Diaz reportedly without a by the city council -- which is possibly a violation of state and city law, which requires a city or town to vote on any business administrator appointed by a mayor to work more than 90 days, the report said.
New Jersey Office of the State Comptroller, a watchdog of government waste, fraud and abuse throughout the state, is also looking into whether Pelissier -- who served four months in the position until last week -- was entitled to pay and benefits in his time serving, the report said. MyCentralJersey.com reported that Pelissier earned roughly $50,000 more than legally allowed by the city for the annual base salary of that position, which caps at $106,765.
Any wrongdoing would fall under the New Jersey Faulkner Act charter law, according to the report.
MyCentralJersey.com also cited a similar matter in which a Superior Court judge recently ordered a former Orange deputy business administrator to repay wages he earned over more than two years while serving in his position.
