A Hightstown man is facing multiple drug charges after his arrest Saturday by South Brunswick police at an area motel.
South Brunswick police arrest a Hightstown man for selling heroin and cocaine out of area motels. SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A tip that a Hightstown man was selling drugs at area motels led to his arrest for possession of heroin and cocaine, police announced Thursday.
Police said Lazaro Ruiz-Caceres, 46, was arrested Saturday night at an unidentified motel, along with Megan Knowles, 24, of Jamesburg after Officer Raymond McCarthy observed the two and 20 decks of heroin and spoke to them.
The officer arrived at the motel in response to the tip, according to Capt. James Ryan, a police spokesman.
Ryan said both Ruiz-Caceres and Knowles were charged with possession of drugs and released.
He said police later located a safe that belonged to Ruiz-Caceres at the same motel.
Ryan said after obtaining a search warrant, police opened the safe and found 220 additional decks of heroin, along with half an ounce of cocaine. Ruiz-Caceres was charged with two additional counts of distribution of drugs and two counts of possession of the drugs with intent to distribute.
He surrendered Wednesday morning at police headquarters and was released after posting $20,000 bail, Ryan said.
South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka said, "this case was a combination of good police work and citizen cooperation."
"Residents getting involved make a difference every time," the chief said.
He offered special thanks to the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office for their assistance in the case.
