The trial of Michelle Lodzinski for the murder of her son Timothy Wiltsey, 5, will get under way Wednesday morning.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- A jury was finally sworn in to hear the evidence and decidewhether Michelle Lodzinski killed her five-year-old son, Timothy Wiltsey in May 1991.
The prosecution and defense will begin the trial Wednesday morning with opening remarks to the jury, 24 years and 10 months after Timmy Wiltsey disappeared from a carnival in Sayreville, launching a search that made national headlines and galvanized communities in Middlesex County who formed teams to help authorities search for the boy.
The child's remains were found 11 months later in a marshy area of Raritan Center.
Lodzinski was charged in August 2014 with the death of her son whom she reported missing the evening of May 25, 1991 from a carnival in Sayreville. She told police he disappeared when she went to a stand to buy soda.
Lodzinski changed her statements to law enforcement about her son's disappearance several times in the weeks and months following May 1991 and the jury will hear those statements. They included his abduction by two men and by a man and a woman.
