Police have identified those killed and injured in Tuesday's crash on Route 9 in Old Bridge.

OLD BRIDGE -- Police have identified the three people killed and the two seriously injured in Tuesday afternoon's two-vehicle crash on Route 9.

William M. Fairchild, 45, of Howell, was among those killed in the crash that occurred around noon near Route 516, police said.

Fairchild, who was driving a blue Ford Escape, was traveling south on Route 9 when, for unknown reasons, his vehicle crossed over the center median and into the northbound lane, hitting a gold Honda Accord head-on, officials said in a previous report.

The driver of the gold Honda was 37-year-old Hope T. Wells, of Freehold. Sitting in the back seat directly behind Wells on the passenger side was 62-year-old Charles H. Kleiman, of San Rafael, California, who was also killed in the crash.

Kleiman's wife, Dorothy Slattery, was injured in the crash and taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, police said. She is listed in stable condition.

Charles Kleiman's mother, 86-year-old Lillian Kleiman, of Freehold, was also in the Honda and severely injured in the accident. Police said Wednesday that she remains in serious condition.

Both vehicles were crushed in the crash, and debris was littered throughout the road and the center median.

Both directions of Route 9 were closed for roughly four hours, bringing local traffic to a halt before reopening shortly before 5 p.m.
