NEW BRUNSWICK -- A city man has been charged in connection with a shooting earlier this month that left one dead and another wounded, according to a statement from the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.
Raymundo Jael Perez-Garcia, 23, was charged in the homicide of Marcos Hernandez, 33, of Passaic, who died after being shot on Drift Street in New Brunswick earlier this month, officials said in the statement.
Perez-Garcia was also charged with "the attempted murder of a 27-year-old man, who was hospitalized with a gunshot wound" and "conspiracy to commit the murder of a 19-year-old man who was not injured," the statement said.
The statement added that "during the investigation, it was determined that Perez-Garcia opened fire and struck Hernandez and the 27-year-old man, whose identity is being withheld."
The current condition of the 27-year-old man is not know at this time, but police said last week that he was still recovering at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
Perez-Garcia was arrested last week on unrelated charges. He was issued additional charges on Wednesday "related to the shooting," officials said.
His bail was set at $500,000," the statement said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
