A brush fire burned in Sayreville Friday afternoon.
SAYREVILLE -- A brush fire that briefly forced the closure of a segment of North Ernston Road was brought under control early Friday night after burning for much of the afternoon, police said.
The fire broke out in a heavily wooded area and no homes were ever threatened, police said via an earlier Facebook post Friday afternoon.
The National Weather Service issued a warning Friday morning of an elevated risk of brush fires due to a combination of wind and low humidity. Parts of Pennsylvania and New Jersey, including Middlesex County, were identified as areas of heightened risk for fires Friday.
