The funeral for the Sayreville police detective found dead on Monday has been scheduled for this week.
SAYREVILLE -- Wake and funeral services will be held this week for Sayreville police Det. Matt Kurtz, who died Monday morning.
A wake will be held on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Maliszewski Memorial Home at 121 Main St., Sayreville.
A funeral will be held Thursday at 10:15 a.m., also at the Maliszewski Memorial Home.
There will be a liturgy of the word at St. Mary's R.C. Church in South Amboy. He is to be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in South Amboy.
Kurtz's cause of death was suicide, according to the Sayreville police chief in a previous report.
Kurtz had served nearly a decade at the Sayreville Police Department.
According to Kurtz's obituary, he was born in New Brunswick and was a lifelong resident of Sayreville.
He joined the police force in 2006, the obituary added, and had been a highly decorated, nine-year veteran of the department.
He is survived by his wife, Jamie, and two sons, Connor and Matthew, his parents Matthew and Elizabeth, and a sister, Jennifer, along with many other relatives.
Kurtz's obituary said, "in lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations in Matthew's memory be made to the Sayreville Association for Brain Injured Children" at 251 Jernee Mill Road, in Sayreville.
