Much of the testimony was about Lodzinski's contradictory statements to police

NEW BRUNSWICK -- The prosecution continued to lay out its case in the second week of Michelle Lodzinski's trial for the murder of her son, Timothy Wiltsey, 5, who disappeared in May 1991.

Since the prosecution's case is circumstantial - meaning there is no direct evidence that links Lodzinski to her son's death - much of the testimony this week was about Lodzinski's contradictory statements to police after Timothy went missing, and about Lodzinski's character.

Here are four surprising things we learned in the second week of trial:

  • Timmy's father played no role in his child's life: George Wiltsey testified that he never saw his son again after Michelle Lodzinski left Iowa and returned to New Jersey when the boy was just 6 months old. He spoke to him on the phone once when Timothy was about 4 years old. He learned of Timmy's disappearance when police came to his home the day after the child was reported missing in 1991.
  • Timmy was not seen at the carnival the night of his disappearance: An Old Bridge woman was attending the carnival with her family and was in back of Michelle Lodzinski at the concession stand the evening of May 25, 1991. She testified Michelle was flirting with the man behind the counter and had no child with or near her.
  • Neighbor stole Lodzinski's trash for the FBI: Lodzinski rented part of a two-family house from Theresa and David Packard. Theresa, now McConnell, testified her then-husband, agreed to turn over Michelle's trash to the FBI to examine for evidence.
  • A stay with friends ends a marriage: Maria Javick Krause testified Lodzinski came to stay with her and her husband, Robert Javick, days after Timmy disappeared and stayed for a month. She "didn't go to work," "hung out," had "water fights" in the pool and began affair with the husband, a possible pregnancy and miscarriage.

Lodzinski has said that Timothy went missing from the carnival in Kennedy Park in Sayreville. She later told police her son was abducted.

The child's remains were found 11 months later, in April 1992, in a swampy area of Raritan Center in Edison.

Lodzinski was indicted in August 2014 for her son's murder. After more than a month of jury selection, the trial completed its second week of testimony Thursday before Superior Court Judge Dennis Nieves and will resume Tuesday morning.
