A U-Haul truck had broadsided a dark-colored vehicle on the driver's side, and another white Ford sport utility vehicle had severe damage.

EDISON -- One person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Tuesday, a law enforcement source said.

The crash, involving a U-Haul truck and two other vehicles, happened on Division Street at Lincoln Highway (Route 27) shortly before 2 p.m.

The U-Haul truck had broadsided a dark-colored vehicle on the driver's side. A third vehicle, a white Ford sport utility vehicle, was stopped just up the road in front of Festival Plaza. The Ford had severe damage to the driver's side.

It's unclear which vehicle the person who died was in.

A woman who works in a nearby strip mall, who declined to give her name, said she ran to see what was happening after hearing a loud crash. The woman said an occupant in the white Ford was taken to the hospital by ambulance.

A red tarp was also placed over the dark-colored vehicle.

An official told MyCentralJersey.com that the Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office is leading the investigation. A spokesman for the prosecutor did not immediately return an email seeking further information.

Edison police also did not immediately return a phone call for details about the crash.

NJ Advance Media reporters Brian Amaral and MaryAnn Spoto, and multimedia specialist Patti Sapone, contributed to this report.
