SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A woman living in a home near South Brunswick High School and a burglar who was reportedly trying to break into her home Wednesday night both became startled and ran off when they saw each other.

After hearing a breaking noise from upstairs, the woman went downstairs and noticed a small hole in her kitchen glass sliding door.

About a minute later, a man "pushed through the broken glass door and entered the kitchen," police said in a statement.

The woman yelled and ran out of the house, and the suspect, realizing someone was home, also ran away.

Police are continuing to investigate the burglary, which occurred around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday.

After running away, the suspect, whose description was limited at this time, "got into a vehicle that was parked on a darkened cul-de-sac at the end of Palladio Boulevard."

Police say the vehicle was a dark grey Honda or Toyota.

Anyone with information or who may have seen unusual activity Wednesday night in the area off Stouts Lane can contact the South Brunswick Police Detective Bureau at (732) 329-4000, ext. 7496.

Detectives are also seeking any home or commercial surveillance video of the area.
