Summonses were sent to the owner's home in New Brunswick.
The owner of a Jeep that was found crashed and abandoned after along Route 440 in Jersey City has been issued several summonses in connection to the accident, authorities said.
Police found the 1993 Jeep Wrangler Monday morning wedged between a utility pole and fence beside Route 440 south, near Kellogg Street. However, the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be found, according to a crash investigation report.
The right lane of the busy roadway was closed for about 90 minutes before the vehicle could be removed. Authorities at the scene said the tow operator had to wait until PSE&G inspectors came to check on the stability of the utility pole before trying to extricate the Jeep.
Jersey City spokeswoman Jennifer Morrill confirmed that summonses for leaving the scene of an accident, abandonment of a vehicle and reckless driving were sent to the owner's home in New Brunswick.
The vehicle was also impounded, the accident report states.
A message left for the Jeep's owner was not immediately returned this afternoon.
