The defense begins presenting witnesses today in the Michelle Lodzinski murder trial

NEW BRUNSWICK -- The prosecution has finished presenting its case for convicting a 48-year-old former South Amboy woman of killing her 5-year-old son in 1991. Prosecutors took 14 days to present their case.

Now it's Michelle Lodzinski's turn.

Lodzinski's attorney, Gerald Krovatin, is expected to call a series of witnesses Thursday morning to drive home the point that there is no direct evidence to prove that Lodzinski killed her son Timothy Wiltsey.

Krovatin is also expected to call witnesses to show that the boy's body could have floated in the Raritan River from the carnival site in Sayreville where Lodzinski reported him missing the evening of May 25, 1991, to where his skeletal remains were found 11 months later in a swampy area of Raritan Center in Edison.

Lodzinski, 48, was charged in August 2014 with her son's murder, but she was a prime suspect within weeks of reporting him missing after she gave police several statements that with different versions of how he disappeared, according to testimony at the trial.

She has always maintained she had nothing to do with his disappearance or death.
