PISCATAWAY -- A person was injured in a fire Thursday afternoon that police say was the result of a chemical reaction at a factory on West Ethel Road.

The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m., officials said.

The unidentified person was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to Lt. Warren Morrison, of the Piscataway Police Department.

The factory is owned by Protex Chemicals Inc., according to New Jersey property tax records. According to the company's corporate website, it develops, produces and markets "chemical and biochemical specialties for various industries."

Protex's website lists the occupant of the factory on Ethel Road as J&E Sozio Inc., which manufactures fragrances for perfumes and other various products.
