Residents took to the polls on Tuesday and voted to re-elect three New Brunswick school board members.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- City voters re-elected two incumbents and a newcomer to the New Brunswick Public Schools Board of Education on Tuesday in what remains the county's sole April school board election.
Incumbents Patricia Sadowski and Benito Ortiz were re-elected for another three-year term after earning 315 and 310 votes, respectively, with newcomer Jennifer Shukaitis receiving 304 votes to gain her first three-year term. Challenger Yesenia Medina-Hernandez received 156 votes, according to figures provided by the county clerk's office Tuesday night.
Sadowski and Ortiz had received nine and six mail-in ballots, respectively, and Shukaitis had received five mail-in ballots. No mail-in ballots had been cast for Medina-Hernandez.
Voters also decided on a ballot question asking whether to raise $28.9 million for the general fund from local property taxes for the 2016-2017 school year.
The ballot measure was approved 264 to 77, according to figures provided by the clerk's office.
Four mail-in ballots had been cast in favor of the ballot question and four had been cast against.

Provisional ballots are expected to be tallied later this week, according to the county clerk's office.
