The memorial service for Robbinsville Superintendent Steve Mayer will be broadcast at three locations and streamed on the web.

ROBBINSVILLE -- The church where Robbinsville schools Superintendent Steve Mayer was an active member has planned a Friday memorial service for him that could attract thousands of mourners.

Mayer, 52, was killed early Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle as he jogged on Robbinsville-Edinburg Road with his dog. A 17-year-old Robbinsville High School student hit him as she was driving to school.

Due to expected attendance, the Princeton Alliance Church in Plainsboro announced they have arranged three additional locations where the service can be viewed via video broadcast, and the 2 p.m. service will be streamed live on two websites.

"In the midst of great loss, we celebrate the life of our friend, Steve Mayer. We invite you to join us this Friday, April 22, as we honor his commitment to Christ and the community," the announcement said.

"Steve had an impact on so many lives, and we expect a tremendous outpouring of love for him and his family at this gathering."

Princeton Alliance requests anyone attending the service at the church's location, at 20 Schalks Crossing Road, Plainsboro, to arrive early and carpool if possible. Overflow parking will be available in the Plainsboro Village Shopping Plaza.

The church has created a website for Mayer's service where visitors can share a story about him or make a donation to a memorial fund in his name.

Mourners pack vigil for superintendent killed in crash

Venues where mourners can watch the service on video:

* Robbinsville High School at 155 Robbinsville-Edinburg Road

* Queenship of Mary Roman Catholic Church, 16 Dey Road in Plainsboro

* St. David the King Catholic Church, 1 New Village Road, Princeton Junction

The service will be streamed online at princetonalliance.org/stevemayer and facebook.com/princetonalliance.

Mayer has been remembered as a beloved educator and married father of three who had a strong Christian faith. He is survived by his wife Donna and sons Ryan, Shaun and Kyle.

Dr. Boyd Hannold, lead pastor at Princeton Alliance, where Mayer was a leader sometimes preached, said Mayer's dedication to his beliefs was ubiquitous.

"Steve was all in, like few men I've known," Hannold said. "His commitment to Jesus was obvious from the moment you met him."

Whether preaching Sunday morning, opening his home to worshippers, leading teams to serve in a mission in Brazil or serving on the church's governing board, "Steve brought hope to every situation," Hannold said.

" 'Mercy Triumphs over Judgment,' a theme in last Sunday's sermon, perfectly summarizes how Steve lived," Hannold said.

"And by the way, I'm sure that's what he would want for the young driver involved in this accident," he said.
