CARTERET -- The Carteret Historical Committee and the Central Jersey Arts Council announced that historical maps and paintings related to the region will be on public display during the month of May.

Items in the historical committee's collection were recently restored with the help of a grant from the Middlesex County Cultural and Heritage Commission.

Works include a map depicting the Canda Manufacturing property dating to 1892 as well as a painting on canvas completed for the Works Progress Administration by Joseph Limarzi in the 1930s.

The restored items will be on display at the Blazing Star Cultural Arts Center through the end of May. The center, at 63 Carteret Ave., is also home to the Carteret Historical Committee's meetings, which are held the first Wednesday of each month (except July) at 7 p.m.

For more information on the display, arts center hours and the historical committee, email carterethistoricalcommittee@carteret.net.
