Herbert Hoover Middle School takes first place at the 2016 United Healthcare Bee.
EDISON -- Knowing what it takes to stay healthy has paid off in more ways than one for a team of seventh-grade students from the Herbert Hoover Middle School, who captured first place at the 2016 UnitedHealthcare Health Bee, held April 21 at Edgar Middle School in Metuchen.
The bee is a Jeopardy-style quiz designed to get seventh-graders excited about health, fitness and nutrition.
Students from five area middle schools competed at the event, but ultimately the team from Herbert Hoover demonstrated the most health knowledge. They took home a $1,000 prize to be used for health and fitness programs at their school. Edgar Middle School earned second place and a $500 prize, and South Amboy Middle School won the school spirit award and a $250 cash prize.
