Dennis Aldea has been named a 2016 Presidential Scholar.
EDISON -- J.P. Stevens High School senior Dennis Aldea has been named a 2016 Presidential Scholar.
The award is presented annually to one young man and woman from every state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and to U.S. students living abroad. Awards also are presented to 15 students chosen-at-large, 20 U.S. Presidential Scholars in the Arts and, for the first time this year, 20 U.S. Presidential Scholars in Career and Technical Education.
Aldea is one of 160 high school seniors nationwide and one of only three New Jersey students chosen by the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars to receive the award, given to seniors who have demonstrated "outstanding academic achievement, artistic excellence, leadership, citizenship, service, and contribution to school and community."
The other New Jersey Presidential scholars are Shagun Vashisth, a student at Morris Hills High School in Rockaway and Hye Rim Jang of Palisades Park, a student at the Academy for Medical Science Technology in Hackensack.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars will be honored next month in Washington, D.C.
