The N.J. DOT said the bridge replacement project should be completed this summer.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- The N.J. Department of Transportation announced a series of lane and ramp closures, starting Monday night on Routes 18 and 1 as the replacement of the Route 18 bridge over Route 1 nears completion.
Starting at 10 p.m. until 5 a.m. the next morning each weeknight, beginning Monday night and continuing through Friday morning, June 17, the ramp from Route 18 north to Route 1 south and a ramp from Route 1 south to Route 18 south will be closed for ramp and utility work.
Motorists will be directed to Route 1 north and exit at the Woodbridge Avenue interchange to Route 1 south.
The DOT said in addition, the ramp from Route 1 north to Route 18 north will be closed each weeknight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Tuesday through Thursday morning.
The ramp from Route 1 south to Route 18 south will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. each weeknight beginning Monday and continuing through Friday morning.
Motorists traveling on Route 1 south to Route 18 south will be directed to continue on Route 1 and exit at Ryders Lane to Route 1 north to Route 18 south.
The Route 1 north ramp to Route 18 north will be closed each weeknight from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday through Thursday.
Motorists traveling from Route 1 north to Route 18 north will be directed to the Woodbridge Avenue interchange to Route 1 south to Route 18 north.
The announcement said there may be additional lane and ramp closures on Route 18 associated with this work, but at least one lane in each direction on Route 18 will be kept open at all times.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and should plan alternate routes if possible, the DOT said.
The project is expected to be completed this summer.
