Fugitive was spotted by police driving a motor vehicle on Thursday afternoon but refused to stop, leading to a high-speed police chase.
NORTH PLAINFIELD -- A Plainfield man who authorities had been searching for in connection with a shooting and carjacking last week, was spotted and eluded police Thursday afternoon in a high-speed car chase, Acting Somerset County Prosecutor Michael H. Robertson said in a news release.
Sedean A. McCoy, 30, of Plainfield is the subject of a manhunt after he allegedly carjacked and shot a man in North Plainfield in the early-morning hours of June 24, according to the prosecutor.
Thursday afternoon, McCoy was observed driving a motor vehicle in Plainfield, the release said. When police attempted to conduct a stop, he sped off and a pursuit ensued, the release said.
McCoy led police through several jurisdictions in Union and Middlesex counties before eluding authorities in Piscataway Township near Exit 6 on Interstate 287, the release said.
On June 24 at approximately 3:14 a.m., North Plainfield police responded to a 911 call reporting that a person had been shot in the Quick Chek parking lot on Somerset Street, the release said.
Upon arrival, officers found a 44-year-old male victim who had been shot in the thigh, the release said. The victim told authorities that while he was entering his vehicle, a 2002 Acura, on the driver's side, an unknown man entered through the front passenger side door brandishing a handgun.

A struggle ensued and the gun discharged, the release said. McCoy then allegedly drove off in the vehicle.
The victim was transported to an area trauma center, where he was treated and released.
An investigation revealed a surveillance video camera capturing McCoy inside the Quick Chek moments before the shooting and carjacking, the release said.
Authorities had been conducting a manhunt for McCoy since the incident.
