WOODBRIDGE -- A youth football coach has been charged with aggravated sexual assault of a minor, according to a criminal complaint filed by the Woodbridge Police Department earlier this month.
Dawayne Avent, 35, of Fords, is currently being held at the Middlesex County Adult Correctional Facility on $500,000 bail, according to the jail's records department.
Avent allegedly "committed aggravated sexual assault by committing an act of sexual penetration" on or about July 3, 2010 on a minor identified only by her initials, according to the complaint.
The minor, the complaint says, was "at least 13 but less than 16 years old" at the time of the alleged sexual assault.
Until last week, Avent had been listed as the 1st vice president of the Fords Youth Association, which is part of New Jersey American Youth Football. However, Avent's name was recently replaced on the website with a new 1st vice president.
Carlton Bynoe, president of the Fords Youth Association, has not yet returned calls for comment.
Police issued a warrant and arrested Avent at his home in Fords.
