PERTH AMBOY -- A municipal task force will help Mayor Wilda Diaz and the city administration decide whether to develop a Perth Amboy Municipal ID card for its immigrant residents.
"The task force will consist of local leaders who are committed to the city and also possess skills, knowledge and other attributes needed in order to effectively carry out their responsibilities of the committee," said Diaz stated in a news release on Monday.
The mayor was expected to announce the launch of the task force at 1 p.m. Tuesday in the Jankowski Community Center at 1 Olive St., according to city officials.
The cards provide an individual's identity points, including name, date of birth and picture. They are critical to individuals who cannot get a driver's license, passport or other government issued ID.

Diaz said the committee will be tasked to discuss several topics, including all the benefits of the ID cards - emergency information, local discounts - and how the business community will be involved.
Roselle is about to become the latest community to adopt the cards. In addition to Perth Amboy, Highland Park and other communities in New Jersey are considering them.
Municipal ID cards are already available in Newark, Asbury Park, Trenton, Freehold and Mercer and Morris counties, among other places.
