The East Brunswick resident discussed Monday her difficult last few months
EAST BRUNSWICK -- Jax, the bubbly 20-year-old who finished third on "American Idol" in 2015, revealed Monday she has thyroid cancer.
In an interview with New Jersey 101.5 radio, the East Brunswick resident discussed a difficult last few months, which involved surgery to remove 12 cancerous tumors from her thyroid gland.
The surgery was a success, the singer born Jaclyn Miskanic said, but left her voice "raspier." Though she hopes it will soon "go back to normal."
An avid runner, Jax told the radio station that in addition to songwriting, she's training for a marathon in New York Nov. 6, on behalf of Tuesday's Children, a Sept. 11 support organization. Her father John was a NYFD firefighter, who responded and was injured during the Sept. 11 attacks.
The singer, who was the furthest-advancing New Jersey contestant in 15 seasons of "Idol" released an ostensibly anti-fame single called "La La Land" in April.
