Joseph Harvie, of Monroe, died Saturday after being struck by a car while cycling on Monmouth Street in East Windsor.
EAST WINDSOR -- Joseph Harvie, the public information officer for Monroe Township and a former local newspaper reporter, will be laid to rest Wednesday following services in Middlesex County.
Harvie, of Monroe, died at a local hospital Saturday after being struck by a car while cycling on Monmouth Street (Route 33) at Airport Road at about 12 noon.
He was 36 years old.
Harvie was an avid cyclist and regularly rode in bicycle tours that raised money for multiple sclerosis, in honor of a cousin who was diagnosed with the disease 15 years ago.
Before working for Monroe, where he started in 2007, Harvie was a reporter for the South Brunswick Post and the Cranbury Press, publications of Packet Media.
"Joe was the definition of a great guy," Hank Kalet, the editor of The South Brunswick Post and The Cranbury Post, who hired Harvie, told centraljersey.com.
"If you asked yourself what you expected from a friend or colleague, he was it. He was gregarious and fun to hang with. He loved music and hockey and he was a talented guy, overall," Kalet said in the report.

He is survived by his parents, Eric and Jean Harvie; brother, John Harvie; niece, Bryanna Harvie; fiancee, Eileen Oldfield and several aunts and uncles, his obituary says.
A viewing is scheduled Tuesday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Brunswick Memorial Home, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick.
