The man accused of spying on several men in a gym bathroom in 2014 was sentenced on Wednesday to 60 days in jail.
NEW BRUNSWICK -- The man accused of filming or photographing several men in a Piscataway fitness center bathroom in 2014 was sentenced to 60 days in jail on Wednesday, according to court records.
Javier Tavira-Flores, 25, of Bound Brook, was also sentenced to five years probation upon his release.
Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus issued the sentence.
Tavira-Flores had pleaded guilty to third-degree invasion of privacy, court records said. He was indicted in February 2015 on 18 counts of invasion of privacy by a Middlesex County grand jury.
From Sept. 15 to Sept. 25, Tavira-Flores allegedly filmed or photographed the unnamed men without their knowledge and while their intimate parts we're exposed.
According to a recording of Tavira-Flores' PTI hearing in April, Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Sermon is heard saying that there were 14 unidentified victims taped without their knowledge and that those victims would likely remain unaware they were filmed.
Authorities at that time had identified only three of the 17 total victims allegedly filmed by Tavira-Flores.
One of the victims, who spoke to NJ Advance Media in April on the condition of anonymity, said he worried that footage of him may have already been uploaded to the internet, but that he would likely never be able to find out for sure.
Middlesex County Assistant Prosecutor Sheree Pitchford handled the case for the state.
