Theismann played 12 season with the Washington Redskins.

SOUTH RIVER -- Joe Theismann (pronounced THEEZ-man) was born in New Brunswick on Sept. 9, 1949.

Theismann was the quarterback at South River High School before going on to play at the University of Notre Dame, where the athletics department began pronouncing his name "THIGHS-man" to rhyme with the Heisman Trophy - which he did not win.

Theismann played 12 season with the Washington Redskins, retiring after a career-ending injury in 1985.
