FREEHOLD -- A woman shopping at a Sunglass Hut Sunday had an unfortunate time checking out when a vape battery exploded in her purse at Freehold Raceway Mall.
A black plume of smoke and flames can be seen in a YouTube video erupting from the purse placed on the counter as the shopper checked out. The store's surveillance footage shows two women quickly rush from the register before the owner carefully walks back to dump out the handbag.
The Old Bridge woman told News 12, which first reported the story, the battery scorched all the items in her purse.
