SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- A South Brunswick man faces drug charges and motor vehicle violations after crashing into another car in the township Tuesday morning, injuring the other driver.
Ryan Tiedemann, 30, of the Dayton section of the township, was arrested and charged after police said he fled from the accident scene on Ridge Road near Julia Way at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, leaving behind the 70-year-old driver of the other car, Wilma Davis, also of South Brunswick.
Police said Davis was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick by ambulance suffering chest pains.
Authorities said Davis was traveling west on Ridge Road in a Hyundai Accent when Tiedemann, in a Nissan Pathfinder, headed east on Ridge Road, crossed over and struck the Accent.
Police located Tiedemann's vehicle in a nearby office complex, according to Capt. James Ryan, who said witnesses told officers they saw Tiedemann drive in and nearly strike a mailbox.

One witness saw Tiedemann stagger around the parking lot and throw multiple items in a sewer drain in the parking lot, Ryan said.
He said Officer William Beard located multiple hypodermic syringes in the drain. Officers located Tiedemann inside one of the offices' bathrooms where he was flushing the toilet.
Ryan said the officers arrested Tiedemann for being under the influence of drugs. They also recovered a large piece of plastic tubing used heroin folded inside his shoes, the captain said.
Tiedemann is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of hypodermic needles, driving while under the influence, hindering his own apprehension, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident and other motor vehicle violations. He was released on a summons pending his first court appearance.
