Holy Savior Academy hosts anti-bullying event in honor of National Bullying Prevention Month.
SOUTH PLAINFIELD - Anti-bullying expert Jim Jordan used magic, optical illusions, card tricks and even a game show-style quiz to teach students at Holy Savior Academy a lesson about bullies.
The underlying theme of his lesson: Report them.
"When someone is being bullied at school, speak up," Jordan told students. "I say to you, we all have the courage inside ourselves to find that special gift of caring."
October is National Bullying Prevention Month and Jordan's Oct. 6 visit is part of the school's effort to combat bullying and raise awareness for students about the long-term effects of bullying. Jordan spoke to students about the role bystanders play in bullying, the different ways that boys and girls bully, cyberbullying and knowing the difference between bullying and everyday conflict between students.
The school has planned a month full anti-bullying activities for students and, according to principal Kristen Kiernan, the anti-bullying efforts will continue throughout the school year. "It's not something that ends when October ends," she said. "These lessons are for life."
