The 20-year-old from Rahway was carrying an Airsoft pistol that looked like a Glock 26, police said
EAST BRUNSWICK -- A man stopped by security at the Brunswick Square Mall after being spotted with a gun identified himself as a police officer on Wednesday, authorities said.
The 20-year-old Rahway resident is not a cop and the gun he had in his waistband wasn't real, East Brunswick police said in a news release Friday.
The Airsoft pistol Christopher Weakland was carrying resembled a Glock 26, according to police. Weakland was also in possession of handcuffs, according to police, who tracked down the Union County man as he arrived at his car in the parking lot.
Weakland was charged with impersonating a law enforcement officer, possession of an imitation firearm, and possession of a prohibited device -- the handcuffs.
He was released without bail.
