Two heroin overdose victims were revived within a 10-hour period last week.
SOUTH BRUNSWICK -- In two separate incidents on the same day last week, police officers revived two men who had overdosed from heroin in their vehicles.
Shorty after 11 a.m. on Friday, a woman called police to report her boyfriend was unconscious in a vehicle in the East Garden Apartment Complex, according to a statement from the South Brunswick Police Department.
Authorities found the 19-year old man unresponsive and barely breathing, police said. The officers administered two doses of Narcan and revived him, police said. The man was taken to a nearby hospital where he was later released.
At around 9 p.m. on Friday, police received another call about a man who had overdosed in a vehicle in the parking lot of a Home Depot on Route 1. They again used Narcan to revive 24-year-old man the man and then took him to a hospital.
"It is become all to common that officers are faced with life and death scenarios on how fast they can counteract the effects of heroin," said Chief Raymond Hayducka in the statement.
Hayducka cited the friends of the two men who quickly called police for help as well as the officers who responded to both scenes as the reasons the two men lived.
