Am 83-year-old Cranbury man was serious injured in a construction accident involving an asphalt paver.
HOLMDEL - An 83-year-old Cranbury man was seriously injured Wednesday in a construction accident on the Bell Works property.
Shortly before noon on Wednesday, Holmdel Township police responded to the Bell Works site on Crawford's Corner Road for a construction accident.
A subsequent investigation determined that construction workers were paving a driveway to a residential sales office when an asphalt paver struck the lip of the driveway, where it meets the main roadway, causing it to leave the ground.
The operator of the machine - an 83-year-old man from Cranbury - was thrown from the machine and became wedged between the machine and freshly laid asphalt, police said.
Another worker was able to stop the machine and move it off of the victim before police arrived.
The Holmdel First Aid Squad and MONOC Paramedics transported the victim, whose name was not released, to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune with serious injuries and burns, police said.
He was later transported to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia for further treatment of those injuries.
The accident was still under investigation by the Holmdel Police Department's Traffic Safety Unit as of Friday morning.
Any witnesses or anyone with any additional information are asked to contact Sgt. Imperato at 732-946-4400 ext.1731.
