Police have identified the driver who crash into an Edison police officer's cruiser recently.
EDISON -- Officials have identified the driver of a vehicle that collided with a township police officer's patrol car earlier this month, leaving the officer and a woman injured.
Tarak Sanyal, 56, of Park Ridge, had been driving on Route 1 north shortly after 11 p.m. on Oct. 8 when he made an illegal left turn toward Prince Street and crashed into Officer Michael Gallant, who was on patrol traveling southbound on Route 1, according to a statement from the township.
Charges against Sanyal, who was driving a Honda Accord, are still pending, the statement said. The Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office Accident Investigations Unit is handling the matter.
Sanyal's 13-year-old daughter was in the front seat of his car and his wife, Keya, 50, was in the back seat not wearing a seat belt, according to police in the statement.
Keya Sanyal was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick for head injuries sustained in the crash. Gallant was also taken to the Robert Wood for head, neck and knee injuries, the statement said.
