Two suspects were captured in Piscataway

METUCHEN-- A phony bomb threat called in to Metuchen High School Friday may have been intended to distract authorities during a bank robbery, police said.

The bomb threat was phoned in around 11 a.m., Bruce Peragallo, the school's principal, said in a letter to parents. The building was deemed clear around 1:40 p.m. following a sweep by bomb-sniffing dogs.

One of the borough's two TD Bank branches was robbed Friday, Metuchen police said in a Facebook post. Two suspects were later arrested in Piscataway in the course of an investigation by State Police and the Piscataway and Metuchen departments.

The incidents remained under investigation Friday night. A call left with Metuchen police Friday night was not immediately returned.
