Man stabbed, shot fired during New Brunswick street fight

A 38-year-old was treated for non life-threatening injuries after being knifed in the abdomen

NEW BRUNSWICK - Police are looking for a man who stabbed a 38-year-old New Brunswick resident during a street fight early Sunday.

The victim was stabbed in the abdomen during an altercation between two groups of men near the corner of Suydam Street and Railroad Avenue just before 2 a.m.

He was treated for an injury that was not considered life-threatening at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, according to New Brunswick police.

During the fight, one man drew a gun and fired a shot which missed, the stabbing victim told police. A second man then pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim, police said.

The gunman is described as a clean shaven with a pony tail, Capt. J.T. Miller said. The stabbing suspect wore a black jacket, red shirt and a black hat. Both fled toward Joyce Kilmer Avenue

Police didn't say how many people took part in the brawl.
