PRINCETON - A woman who said she was held against her will in a man's car for hours Monday was able to escape by screaming for help as he drove through Princeton, according to police.
The man, 22-year-old Benjamin Li, of Stonewall Circle in Princeton, was charged with kidnapping, criminal restraint and receiving stolen property Monday.
According to police, an officer was parked on Nassau Street near Witherspoon around 11:15 p.m. Monday when he heard the woman screaming for help from a passing Mercedez Benz. The officer pulled over the car near South Tulane Street and found Li in the driver's seat with a 20-year-old Plainsboro woman in the passenger's seat.

The woman told police that Li had kept her in the car and refused to let her leave as he drove through various towns for three hours, according to police. She said Li had threatened to kill her, had punched her in the arm, and had stolen her cell phone, police said.
Police said the two knew each other before the incident but that the extent of their relationship was not clear. They said the woman was not forced into the car.
Li was taken into custody and was being held on $225,000 bail with no 10-percent option Wednesday morning.
