The fire went to 2 alarms before being brought under control
NEW BRUNSWICK-- A 2-alarm house fire driven by high winds slightly damaged an adjacent home before being brought under control Friday, Capt. William Borke said.
Firefighters were called to 177 Townsend St. around 3:20 p.m. and found flames and smoke pouring out side windows. Fire also broke out between that home and neighboring 175 Townsend, Borke said.
The fire caused heavy damage to 177 before it was brought completely under control by 7:30 p.m. The neighboring house suffered much less severe damage, mostly to the exterior, Borke said.
No one was injured.
A dozen people living in 177 were displaced and were receiving assistance from the Red Cross. The six people living next door were also assisted by the agency.
