NEW BRUNSWICK - Fire erupted inside a 2 and 1/2- story home early Friday, forcing residents into the street and rendering the home inhabitable, fire officials said.
The two-alarm blaze was reported at 4:21 a.m. inside 80 Delafield Street in an area that is home to many university renters, said New Brunswick Deputy Fire Chief Kevin McCann.
Smoke alarm alerted residents to the fire and everyone made it outside safely, McCann said.
"The home sustained extensive damage and is uninhabitable," McCann said.
The fire was under control in a short period of time. Firefighters remained at the scene checking for hotspots.
