EDISON -- Matthew Addona and his two friends took off work on Friday to specifically go to the opening day of the much-anticipated sports entertainment venue, Topgolf, in Edison.
The global entertainment center, which has 31 locations worldwide, is the first of its kind in the state.
The group was laughing, ordering drinks and hitting some balls before the holiday weekend.
"Good food, good drinks, heated seats," said Zachary Gomez, of Flemington, who was with his brother, Max.
All three are big golfers, and the climate-controlled bays, which have heated seats and heated ceiling vents, allow for year-round practice.
The three-level, 65,000-square foot complex -- located near the Edison Towne Square on Route 1 -- features more than just golf. The company says one of the biggest selling points of the venue is that anyone -- even those who don't like golf -- can still have a good time.
Adrianne Pegeron, of Piscataway, isn't a golfer. Nonetheless, she said she was still having a fun time on Friday, relaxing and drinking a Bloody Mary while watching her boyfriend, Mike Manfre, of Iselin, take a few swings. Manfre was trying to hit the colorful targets on the 215-yard range, which are used for a variety of target games.
"I come here to watch," Pegeron said, as a waiter brought her an order of quesadillas.
There are 102 hitting bays at the venue, and microchip golf balls allow guests to gauge the distance of each hit, which is then relayed to the computer screen at each of the bays.
The complex is trying to bring a high-tech and luxurious feel to a golf range, which also includes a restaurant with an original menu, craft beer, a rooftop terrace, live music, games and, of course, golf. There are pool tables on the bottom level along with Xbox and HD televisions throughout the complex.

Another Topgolf location is scheduled to open in Mount Laurel late next year.
