New combined facility will be called 'Jeremiah's Refuge'
PERTH AMBOY -- Two shelters serving men will merge next month, mycentraljersey.com reported Tuesday.
The Care House, operated by the Salvation Army, and Jeremiah's Refuge will join Nov. 2 and will operate as Jeremiah's Refuge at 433 State St.
The new shelter will serve homeless men and veterans and will offer meals, a place to stay during severe weather and other services.
"This is a positive step in pursuit of our vision for Perth Amboy and the surrounding communities," Capt. Alex Rodriguez, The Salvation Army Perth Amboy Corps' commanding officer, told mycentraljersey. "As time progressed, we recognized that our shelter programs needed to be modified as the needs of the community evolved. We look forward to continuing to work with veteran and homeless men by providing them with the skills to become independent and self-sufficient members of society."
