The man is also suspected in two other attempted break-ins of homes in Edison.

EDISON -- A 61-year-old Edison man is accused of stealing roughly $2,000 from cash and jewelry from a township home Wednesday, according to officials.

Joseph C. Kot was arrested Wednesday night and charged with burglary and related charges for allegedly ransacking a home on Simpson Avenue earlier in the day, according to a statement from the township.

After a search, police found Kot hiding in a different home nearby.

Kot is also suspected in two attempted break-ins of homes in the neighborhood, officials said.

"It's a good day when I can tell Edison residents their police officers swiftly arrested a suspect allegedly responsible for violating the sanctity of people's homes," Edison Police Chief Thomas Bryan said in the statement.

Kot is being held at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick while he awaits a bail hearing.
