The occupants of a Chevrolet Camaro died in a crash on the Parkway southbound in Aberdeen Saturday afternoon.
ABERDEEN -- Police have identified the two people killed in a crash on the Garden State Parkway Saturday afternoon.
Kyia Fredericks, 25, of Brick, and Rene Munoz, 29, of Toms River, were in a Chevrolet Camaro when it stopped in the center lane of the southbound express lanes of the Parkway around 3:30 p.m., near milepost 120.9 in Aberdeen, Sgt. Jeff Flynn, a New Jersey State Police spokesman, said.
The Camaro was then struck by a GMC Yukon, Flynn said. The Yukon overturned as a result of the collision.
Fredericks and Munoz were both pronounced dead at the scene, Flynn said.
The reason the Camaro stopped in the express lanes is still under investigation, Flynn added.
A witness told NJ Advance Media that the two occupants of the Camaro had their hands out the window to wave drivers around them. The witness did not want to be identified.
He said he was driving on the Parkway and was able to quickly maneuver around the stopped Camaro.
However, the witness said, the Yukon was behind him and did not get around the Camaro, crashing into its rear. The witness said he saw the collision in his rearview mirror.
The Camaro, he said, bunched "like an accordion" and the Yukon overturned.
The driver of the Yukon suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash, Flynn said. The driver was not charged.
The crash remains under investigation.
