Luis Felipe Batista was charged and released with a summons on a third-degree count of endangering the welfare of a child, police said
PERTH AMBOY -- A church volunteer has been accused of improperly touching a teenager on multiple occasions at the Holy Trinity Church, police said.
Luis Felipe Batista, 21, of Perth Amboy, was released Wednesday with a summons following his arrest on the third-degree charge stemming from the alleged incidents in the fall of 2015, Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew Carey said in a release.
Batista, who was 19-year-old at the time, had volunteered a hall monitor during CCD classes at the parish for more than five years, according to Carey.
He was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, the release said.
The Diocese of Metuchen said it is coroperating fully with authorities.
"The Diocese is committed to being as transparent and open as possible about this matter with members of the community," the diocese said in an emailed statement. "Today and in the days ahead, we offer our deepest prayers for all parties affected by this matter, especially the alleged victim and his family."
