John Fricovsky, of Edison, faces up to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to child pornography charges in the U.S. District Court in Newark.

NEWARK -- A 57-year-old Middlesex County man admitted in federal court Tuesday to having distributed child pornography over the internet.

John Fricovsky, of Edison, pleaded guilty before U.S. District Judge John Michael Vazquez in Newark to charges of distributing and possessing child pornography, according to the office of U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman.

Court records show Fricovsky was arrested in December 2015 after agents with Homeland Security Investigations served a search warrant at his home in connection with an investigation that began in Louisiana that June.

Prosecutors say that Fricovsky admitted to emailing an image of child sexual abuse to another person, as well as possessing electronic devices containing at least 10 but fewer than 150 images of child pornography.

The charge he pleaded guilty to carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Fricovsky's sentencing has been scheduled for June 7.
