Richard D. Smith appeared before Middlesex County Superior Court Judge Diane Pincus Wednesday morning where he pleaded guilty to charges of aggravated sexual assault and aggravated assault, records show.

As part of a plea bargain, he admitted to two of the eight counts in his indictment, according to the records.

Smith was charged after a 25-year-old patient reported to the hospital in November of 2015 that the 41-year-old lifted her gown and improperly touching her while she was incapacitated and under Smith's care. Smith was a patient care technician at the University Medical Center of Princeton at Plainsboro during that incident.

A second sex assault was later uncovered by authorities from when Smith worked at Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center in Hamilton in 2013, according to his indictment in May of last year.

Smith is scheduled to appear in court on June 3 for sentencing facing at least a decade in prison. He will also have to register with the state under Megan's Law.
