The victim contacted a relative via FaceTime and that person called 911 to report the attack at the La Mirage Motor Inn, South Brunswick police said in a statement.

Jaron Thomas, 25, of the Somerset section of Franklin Township, was charged with aggravated assault, obstruction of justice, and hindering apprehension.

When police arrived at the La Mirage Motor Inn at 7:30 a.m. they found the victim in the parking lot and Thomas seated in a nearby Toyota Corolla, police said.

Thomas ignored instructions to stop the car and pulled onto Route 1 south, officials said. Another officer on patrol along Route 1 pursued Thomas into the rear of the Hotel Vicenza, where he was taken into custody, police said.

The person allegedly struck by Thomas was hospitalized with broken facial bones.

Chief Raymond Hayducka encouraged anyone who is the victim of a crime to be resourceful to contact authorities

"When seconds count, use whatever tools you need to contact police for help," Hayducka said.
